Diet & Treats
Diets and treats play an important role in your pets’ health. All diets and treats are not created equally. It is important to feed a high-quality diet to your pet. Your pets’ skin, coat and other organ systems can be greatly affected by diet.
If your pet has been diagnosed with a medical condition, it may be especially important for them to be on a special or prescription diet. Some of these diets can slow the progression of disease and help increase your pets’ quality of life and possibly increase the time they will be with you and your family.
There are numerous quality foods available; please do not hesitate to contact us for a recommendation about which food is right for your pet.
Did you know that most treats are like candy bars; high in fat and sodium? Would you eat three or more candy bars a day? Due to the increase in the awareness of the need for healthy treats, more and more are becoming available every day. Read the labels and opt for the healthier ones.
A good alternative to packaged treats for dogs is carrots. They are healthy and most dogs really like them. Some owners find that parboiling makes them more acceptable to their dogs. Other than carrots, green beans and a few other items, HUMAN FOOD IS NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR PETS!!!!! Your pets’ genetic background may have been truly carnivorous but that was thousands of years ago. Most domestic pets these days do not have a tolerance for human food, raw meat, bones, etc. Most human food can have a disastrous affect on your pets’ pancreas. If you are not sure if something is safe for your pet to eat, please call us first.
WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND AGAINST BONES OF ANY TYPE OR SHAPE!!
Again, please do not hesitate to contact our office for a recommendation.
